WATER!

WHO? WHAT? WHERE?

Water! We use water every day.

In the UK, each person uses enough water every day to fill nearly two baths! Don’t believe us?

Next time you wash your hands or brush your teeth try putting the plug in to see how much water you actually use – and that’s only for one activity in your day.

When the weather gets warmer, we use water even more.

We might drink more water to keep us cool, the plants in the garden will need more to grow and stay healthy, and we might even play with water by having water fights or running through a sprinkler or having a paddling pool in the garden. Did you do any of those things this summer?

For us living in the UK, water comes out of a tap in our home or school, and so we can use it easily every time we need it.

But for lots of people around the world, the only way to get water is to walk and collect it. They don’t have taps in their homes.

The water pump, or the river or well where they get their water might be very far away. And on the way back they have to carry large, heavy containers of water – without spilling any.

At Tearfund we don’t think that’s fair. Everyone should be able to have clean water easily available to them. We think that, as Christians, it’s something we should help to improve.

So why is water so important?

Well we have been to meet Sophia in Malawi to find out.
